Dragon Ball: Xenoverse 2 Reviews & Ratings
A few years back I purchased this game because I was a huge fan of the Dragonball series. I had recently read all of the manga back in high school, and I wanted to be a part the action. And what I had believed was a simple character versus game turned out to be so much more. An original character customization adventure that recreates the original battles from the Dragonball Z franchise! Mixed in with few fights from Super...and Grand Tour, sure why not? It has its fans, who am I to judge. But what I am going to judge is the main story levels, which are just packed with high and low moments. In this adventure, you take control of an original character as a member of the Time Patrol. You'll take part in missions to correct the changes in history caused by Towa's minions and help take down various villains from the series. But before gettin started, you need to put some thought and care into the character customizer. I love games that have these kinds of mechanics!Freedom is one of the most important elements of a game and I glad a lot of modern video games are taking advantage of these mechanics. Its encourages replay ability when you have new moves to try out or a new face to interact. It makes a game feel more valuable in that sense. You can choose from five classes. Human, Saiyan, Namekian, Freeza, or Majin. Each class comes with their own strengths and weaknesses and unique super forms. You customize their color scheme, size, and even the voice.I'd say I like this creation system a lot more than Skylanders Imaginators. While that system has a lot more options, most of the parts don't align with the Sky Lands lore. But here in the Xenoverse, legit care is put into the system, especially in the animation system, so the player feels like a complete character rather than a walking weapon. So yeah, I'm happy to know that the system isn't cheap, but what about the actual levels? One thing that really bothers in video game series that try to tackle on a customization system, is that most developers spend too much time and energy into making the creation system, that little to no care is put into the level or the theme design.Take Yo-Kai Watch 3 for example, thematically the game looks interesting with its American themed level design. And the cat Yo-Kai creation system is colorful. But it's mixed in with awful mini games and a really underwhelming story. Well I'm happy to say, that the levels in this game are actually really fun. Each mission will have you fight villains from the past in a 3-D combat system. It feels sweet to do this on the switch, devastating your opponents with merciless combos, and then blasting them with beams of light...its a rush and I love it!Usually these levels will have you team up with Goku's friends to defeat past foes powered up with Towa's evil magic. I thought these fights would become repetitive at first, but then the game starts throwing movie villains at me! Heck yeah! Seeing the Meta Coolers have a dialogue exchange with Perfect Cell saying that they want to enter the Cell Games is hilarious and yet is also a terrifying idea. Its nice that these battles take place during the sags they were released in. It's like universes are merging together to make these creative fights. My favorite fight in the game though is against Captain Ginyu. Trunks finds out he stole Vegeta's body and goes to help him, but then he gets his body stolen! And then I have to go through all these hilarious battles until we can put a stop the body snatching!Fights like these are intense, sometimes I need to stock on lots of good healing items in order to take on the foes with massive health bars. But other times, I just enjoy myself, and learn what it means to be a great warrior. The only fights I can't stand in the game, are the great ape battles.During the clash between Nappa and Vegeta, they transform into Oozaru, and this fight made almost rage quit the game. Attack from close range and you get sent flying, attack from far away with Chi blast and the fight takes forever. And the only way to officially deal damage is to take out the stun gauge, but that's really tricking to do when their's a second ape attacking in the background. Thematically the fight looks cool, its just a huge difficulty spike. What also ticks me off are some of the hub area design choices. Every once in a while, the Supreme Kai of Time shouts in the microphone and advertises the Hero Colosseum, and it really hurts my eardrums. I'm not a fan of some of the hub area design choices, but this the one thing I can't turn off or edit. It's not bad voice acting, this one voice clip is just way too loud.Overall, I have some nitpicks here and there, but this is a pretty sweet game. As for my thoughts on the climax, its just alright. The game's conclusion is more silly than epic. The journey is more entertaining than the goal.

I think this game is the perfect example of great idea, mediocre execution. I think the idea of playing through the db story is great but, itI think this game is the perfect example of great idea, mediocre execution. I think the idea of playing through the db story is great but, it is just the same thing. I think it would've been great if we started in the first Dragon Ball series and work through that story, then build into Z and super. Starting off at the Radizt every time gets boring. I also think there should've been what if's like in the budokai series like "what if Vegeta had SSJ3?" so we don't need to rely on the modding community for that. Also there is the bad online, and NO ANIMATED TALES. But most of these problems are fixed with the game's biggest pro (at least for PC), the modding community. The modding community is great and adds, fixes many singleplayer problems with the game. But with the lackluster plot, and the lack of innovation are big problems for the game. But it does have many pros, like the modding community on PC, solid combat, and great ideas. This game will have another sequel in the future and I think this is just another stepping stone for the XV series.
if the 1st XV was a 5 this one is a 7.Theres much much more content to this game than the original. the story may be similar with differentif the 1st XV was a 5 this one is a 7.Theres much much more content to this game than the original. the story may be similar with different villains but this was Xenoverse's story, history change ... go fix it. they added plenty of heroes that weren't in the original and they gave each custom race it's own transformation with better balancing. They found a good way to prevent the spam from happening and they added online raids.. which is simply good, Although with the time going by they decided to make raids spam to win The main problem this game has is the terrible amount of DLCs with added character that are available.to sum up,-New skills added-more heroes-improved compact
