Massively disappointed with this one.

What really hurt this title from being something special was that it had a story that, if fleshed out, could have been comedy gold, even while the control was somewhat iffy.

The tracks, power-ups and controls aren't offensively bad; they're just average and lacking in innovation. Coffin Dodgers can be a good bit of quick fun with friends, but don't expect most to stick around for more than a few races or an hour or so for the most dedicated drivers.

Coffin Dodgers looks like a lot of fun on first glance but look deeper & you’ll see an ugly, bland, boring & overly easy game.Let’s start with the graphics…Coffin Dodgers goes with a simple cartoonish look with very little detail. Looking more like a Playstation One game, the backgrounds are bland & the tracks themselves uninspired. Several times while driving through tunnel sections the word ‘disgusting’ kept coming to mind.Now I understand that this is a karting game with cartoon graphics, that it’s going for a simplistic look however that doesn’t excuse just how dated they are.To make matters worse when moving at a high speed I found characters & objects would blur & glitch slightly. This is made even worse when stuck among a group of other racers.There are 7 different characters to choose from (with the 8th – the Grim Reaper unlocked once the main story is complete) but it really doesn’t matter who you choose. Other than a bit of background information about them they have no personalities & offer no difference in driving.You can upgrade your scooter in the garage with coins you earn in the races but it’s not really that important. You see, the game is so easy that with minimal upgrades to your speed & acceleration you’ll be winning races with ease, that is provided you can avoid the horrible melee weapons of your opponents.Possibly my biggest complaint surrounds the added detail that you can melee your opponents to slow them down. They can also do this to you making the early stages of a race a nightmare. No matter how well you did in the previous race you’ll always start at the back & while it’s easy to get to the front dodging the swinging sticks of all the other racers requires some serious skill.Getting knocked off you’re scooter is far too easy while among the crowd & it takes far too long to respawn. Have that happen to you a few times in the race & finishing within the top 3 is suddenly a tough prospect.It’s not just the melee weapon but also power ups dotted around the track. It’s the usual kind of stuff you’d expect in a karting game; homing missiles, boosts, shields etc. Except here the missiles miss more times than they hit, the shield lasts far too long & don’t get me started on the Uzi. I’ve been directly behind other racers using that thing & it still misses.The controls are infuriatingly responsive & using your brakes is almost pointless. Bouncing off lamp-posts, getting stuck in corners, loosing huge amounts of speed after launching off jumps, obstacles that suddenly come round the corner not giving even a second to react…the list goes on & on.As you can see Coffin Dodgers is filled with flaw after flaw & with only 10 races overall there isn’t that much content either. Local multiplayer, while welcome just prolongs the agony & an open world mode offers little in the way of extra fun.For achievement hunters it’s an easy enough completion but you’d be wasting your money. Some may think I’m being harsh here but this game costs just under £10, which is a lot of money for just how poor the overall product is.

While it may be a little rough around the edges, Coffin Dodgers is a fun and simple racer. The cartoony feel to the game makes it easy to admire while you race around the annoyingly short tracks, and the soundtrack is a perfect light accompaniment. Unfortunately, the game has a few problems that keep it from being great, rather than just good. The lack of online multiplayer in a racing game of this kind is a disappointment, and the length of the story and tracks themselves mean the game is over too quickly.

Coffin Dodgers could have been the Kart-racer that fans of the genre were waiting for. It also could have been good. Instead, Coffin Dodgers is an extremely limited and mediocre attempt at creating a Kart-racer that somehow manages to stutter along on hardware that should far exceed the requirements of this title. This, along with its low texture quality, low-poly models and basic to the point of boring gameplay—Coffin Dodgers looks and plays as old as its cast.

He agrees…To keep your soul you have to finish in the top 3 overall in each location.There are 4 locations and a 5th showdown location that mixes the first 4 into one giant race..The 4 locations consist of 3 races each…These races are 4 laps and take about 4 minutes each to complete, so youre looking at about a 1 hour long story.These races are actually more about xp than they are winning…In kart racing fashion there are mystery boxes laying around the course for item pick ups, and you can also hit other racers with your cane, or umbrella, or whatever other weapon you unlock as you progress..You unlock items with this xp because xp earned from taking enemies out converts into coins at the end of the race..You can use these coins to upgrade the body of your kart, its acceleration, your combat weapon, paint, the amount of items you can pick up, as well as your engine…And honestly I think having a system like this in play rather than stat specific racers is a huge mistake…Giving no stats to the characters takes all the life out of them, pun not intended…But this is fine.. this allows you to grind levels to upgrade your kart if a race is giving you trouble, and many will..Because unfortunately this kart racer is more luck based than it is skill based…Its way too easy to be knocked out of first place into last…it feels cheap and unfair to hold the lead up until the last lap and a rocket ruins this for you… there is no way to counter items…and if you get hit by a car or get taken out by another racers you lose all items you’ve picked up which makes a first to last place situation feel even more cheap..at the very least let me keep my items to try and climb back on top…Other than the lifeless characters and cheap gameplay aspects of this game,I found coffin dodgers to be insanely goofy fun, the levels are varied and awesomely designed.I give Coffin Dodgersa 7.0/10

The dev team have put a lot of work into the story and character design, the scooter handling is solid and the racing action frenetic. Lots of achievements to get too.The scope of the game could be greater but at £8.99 it is well worth it (I got it on sale so even better!!!)9/10

Okay I'm sold!!! Seriously, this is a really fun little kart racer in the hold of Mario Kart but perhaps more reminiscent of CTR. The story is really fun, there is a lot of dark humour in there and the characters are super cute. Would love to see more old people characters in games!The tracks are well planned, the handling is smooth and the hand to hand combat is a nice little feature.My only negative is that I would have liked there to be more weapons.If you're able to play the split screen multiplayer, it makes for a great party game. if not there is online multiplayer too with a couple of different game modes.I'd definitely recommend and I'm excited to see where the devs take the game in the future.

It’s a game I’ll be keeping in my collection for the foreseeable future, my girlfriend is even thinking about getting a copy as she’s a major Mario kart fan. It really is great fun.

Its probably the only kart racer out their where you can battle opponents using a variety of hand to hand weapons and then whack them out of their karts. Hopefully the devs keep expanding it and adding dlc content.

That game, become the best mobility scooter racer or be faced with the harsh yet inevitable reality of death.In Coffin Dodgers you’re required to come at least in the top three in order to progress to the next championship otherwise your OAP of choice gets the kiss of death, and you’re required to start all over again. It sounds pretty simple, but a handful of mechanics have been put into place which makes progression pretty darn difficult.Think Mario Kart, but with oldies as the stars. You race around a series of tracks within this little retirement village collecting luggage filled with weapons to use against your pensioner pals. These are the usual array of things from targeted rockets, oil slick, a defibrillator, and a machine gun. These, like in other similar kart racers, are used for you to get the advantage, and are more often than not pretty unfair, but hey, that’s the race for you.There is however one more mechanic which made my blood boil. The ability to melee other racers to either slow them down a little, or if you have the time to charge it up, unleash a deadly swing that has their balding, liver spotted bodies flailing across the track. Though the range of the melee is short, it comes without warning and can at times completely ruin a race for you. It’s frustrating and I hate it.Visually however, it’s quite endearing and was one of the reasons I was hyped about the game when it launched on Kickstarter. It takes on a bright cartoon-like appearance with a lot of humour thrown in there. I mean, what other racer can you swing a string of sausages at a zombie version of your pensioner friend while you race around a retirement village in a mobility scooter with Nitrous Oxide strapped to the back all while racing against the Grim Reaper?Sadly it can get tedious fairly quickly and with the lack of multiplayer popularity, the very little content available, the game can be completed in a very short amount of time. There is a local multiplayer mode, which is a nice addition, but even then, with the lack of content and sometimes buggy AI, the game still feels like it could have some work doing to it.The only real way I can describe Coffin Dodgers is like that liquorice that’s sweet on the outside, but has a bitter center. In short bursts the game is a lot of fun and can offer the odd chuckle here and there, but after a little while it gets a little tedious and frustrating. Which is a real shame
