Cultic launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S with both chapters

Solo-dev retro shooter Cultic arrives on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S with both chapters, 23 maps, and Survival Mode for $19.98.

Cultic, the retro-inspired first-person shooter from solo developer Jason Smith under the Jasozz Games banner, is now available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S as of July 23, 2026. Publisher Atari brings the console edition to market four years after the game’s PC debut, bundling everything into a single complete package.

What the console edition includes

The console release includes Cultic: Chapter One and Cultic: Chapter Two together in a complete edition for $19.98, with a combined 23 maps. Console players get access to the full campaign and Survival Mode on day one – unlike the staggered release on PC.

On PC, the chapters arrived separately: Chapter One was released on October 13, 2022, and Chapter Two on September 18, 2025. A free Interlude chapter connecting the two was released on September 30, 2023.

Survival Mode Included Included

A wave-based Survival Mode inspired by Resident Evil 4‘s “The Mercenaries” and Killing Floor offers high replayability, with players scrounging money from each kill to buy weapons, ammo, health, and armor between waves, and competing for spots on global leaderboards across multiple difficulties.

Abandoned city street at night with smoke, debris, and amber streetlights suggesting urban devastation in a retro horror setting
Chapter Two moves the action from rural cult outposts into the ravaged streets of New Grandewel, with new weapons and a new soundtrack.

Retro look, modern engine

Cultic is a retro first-person shooter created by solo dev Jason Smith, inspired by the likes of Jedi Knight Dark Forces 2 and Resident Evil 4, combining fast-paced gunplay with a “gritty” pixelated aesthetic. Despite its retro aesthetic – pixelated textures, sprite-based enemies, and a film-grain filter – Cultic is built on Unity, a fully modern three-dimensional game engine. The gameplay, audio design, and art are all stylized to create a unique experience, underpinned by physics and lighting that the classic Build Engine titles it references could never deliver.

Set in the 1960s, players control a detective who uncovers a violent, brainwashed cult which has become capable of capturing towns, mass murder, and creating monsters. Chapter One is set in rural America – cult outposts, dusty catacombs, and abandoned asylums – while Chapter Two moves into the ravaged streets of New Grandewel, with new weapons and enemies, a revamped dodge and tackle, and a whole new soundtrack.

Critical reception

Cultic received “generally favorable reviews” according to Metacritic, scoring 79/100, and earned 84% Critics Recommend on OpenCritic. The title gained traction within the retro-shooter community for its physics, environmental interactivity, and satisfying combat, earning “Overwhelmingly Positive” reviews on Steam.

Price and availability

Cultic is available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2 as of July 23, 2026. The $19.98 price point – a nod to the game’s 1960s setting and retro roots – makes it one of the more competitively priced complete-edition console launches in the boomer-shooter space.
